I'm pretty sure that it is possible to install the cooler pipes either way, 
as the adaptors are the same fit. 

It should amke no difference which way the oil circulates through the cooler. 
However, I think the shorter pipe goes to the front of the engine.

Unfortunately my SIII (with cooler added) is laid up elsewhere for the 
winter, so I can't make an eyeball check.
