1966 Sunbeam Tiger Convertible. THIS IS A TRUE SUNBEAM TIGER, NOT AN ALPINE
CONVERSION! Shelby agreed to do the engineering for $10,000, with a potential
commission per car should it reach production. Fabrication was overseen by Phil
Remington of Shelby's shop. The 260 c.i. Ford small-block was dropped into
place, requiring a slight relief of the firewall. The installed transmission
was a T-10, sending power back to a Salisbury rearend. The steering was
upgraded to rack and pinion, and a revised cooling system was installed. Dual
exhausts were fabricated and routed through the frame rails. This mostly
original tiger is chassis number B947220. This car has not been driven in many
year's. We recently ran this car through our shops and got it started. It runs
very well, considering it has not been driven in many years. The body in good
condition with some minor rust in the bottom of the trunk lid and in the
fenders. The floors in this car and trunk are in good condition. A fast and fun
British sports car. Available at $11,500. This Sunbeam Tiger is very complete.
The parts for this automobile are readily available at from a number of large
suppliers, including Victoria British. These cars do not have much chrome on
them. The bumpers are slightly pitted and need rechroming. The side Stainless
Steel trim is very good and would polish up nicely. This Sunbeam Tiger is
fitted with it's original Ford 260 V8 Motor. The car runs well, but will
require some adjustments to the carburetor. The only item that is wrong on the
motor is the intake manifold and the carburetor. They have been changed to a
Holly 4 barrel and a offenhouser manifold. These cars were available from the
factory with a verity of different carb and manifold setups. It would be very
easy to replace these with an original. The motor runs very strong and would
require a minimum of work to get the car on the road. The car drives and shifts
well. The brake cylinders on this car will need to be rebuilt. They tend to
stick from sitting over the last few years.
or cosmetic restoration services on this car at a reduced labor rate. This
Sunbeam Tiger is fitted with it's original valve covers and engine data
sticker. This Sunbeam Tiger is fitted with it's original data plate from
Sunbeam. The original color of this car was British Racing Green. The interior
of this car is in very good shape. The dash is complete and correct. The wood
is in very good shape with only some pealing on the clear coat on the wood.
This Tiger still is fitted with the original telescoping steering wheel. This
sunbeam has the correct seats which are not ripped and I feel could still be
cleaned up and used. The car would require new carpets, since the old ones are
well worn. The top is free from rips, and goes up and down freely. The trunk
floor is free from rust and still has all of its original trim pieces.
