Overall the Fairlady design was , coarse, yes. Way too much "stuff" on the
front end. You're right about the taillights. Can we do this an cheaper
looking?

I did not see that it said it took the Alpine design. I think it said that
they were similar concepts, using existing chassis structures to create
sports cars (though they made a point of saying the Alpine was not a sports
car, but a sports tourer). There was something about MG or Fiat sources
for the Fairlady. But, I skimmed those parts.
Personally, I always thought the fronts of Fairlady's were coarse,
unrefined, and the taillights looked incomplete - as though some full
taillight structure (like an Alpines) was intended for that oval space, but
those silly round lights were tacked on instead. I also never liked the
later molded dashboard - though admittedly, I definitely liked the earlier
flat one.
