Zenith carb air filters

I'd like to replace the gauze in my Zenith carb air
filters.  Classic Sunbeam doesn't sell it, so I'm
thinking I'll buy some material and cut it into a
circle then replace what I've got.  Has anyone done
this?  

The manual says clean them with Kerosene so that's my
other option, but would carburetor cleaner work just
as well.
