I attended the British Car Day show at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix
yesterday. It was a beautiful day to drive with the top down and hear the
music from the tailpipe that only a British car can play. There were 500+
British cars in attendance. In the Sunbeam group there were 2 Alpines and 4
Tigers. I also saw a 53 Singer. My car started to miss and sputter within 1/2
mile of the show grounds. I managed to get the car into position at the show.
While my son Got the car ready ( a lot of bugs gave up their life for me to
attend) I investigated the engine problem. What I found was a screw dropped
off the carburetor that held the chock plate into position. As any wise LBC
owner, I went to my toolbox and found . . . NO SCREWS. I had every tool needed
for any emergency except a collection of miscellaneous screws and bolts. I
ended up taking one of the screws that hold the horns and with some washers
borrowed from my Tiger neighbor, Jeff Lee, I was able to bring the life back
to the Alpine.
So the moral of the story is . . . Don't leave home without a collection of
nuts, bolts, screws, and washers. This is my free tip of the day.
Tim Stiffy

throwing that in.
