I bought one. My engine is still at the machine shop so I have not
installed and used the starter yet. I stuck it in the hole and it appeared
to fit just fine. The diameter of the starter motor is a little smaller and
length a little shorter than the Lucas unit. The adapter plate has holes
drilled all the way around to allow the starter to be rotated on the mount.
This should allow the starter to be placed very close to the engine block
and not interfere with the exhaust. The new starter also has an integrated
solenoid so the battery cable will need to be modified.
I did some research before I bought and all the reviews I found were very
positive. The starter is based on a Denso unit similar to what is used on
most Hondas and Acuras. I have owned a few cars equipped with the Denso
unit and have found them very dependable.

Subject: gear reduced starter
I notice that vicky brit is selling a gear reduced starter now for the
alpine.
Anyone bitten on it yet?
Fitment issues?
