Humber Sceptres were never imported by Rootes or Chrysler. In 40+ years of
Rootes watching, I have seen two in New York City. In each case I was not in
a position to get a good look. One passed me as I was waiting to cross the
street in front of New York's city hall in 1964 or so. It was a Series I and
was left hand drive. All the lights were green and it disappeared uptown in a
few moments-the Sceptre was a medium gray color. The other one I saw was in
mid-town. I was standing, crammed onto a New York City bus and one pulled up
along side. The light changed and it was gone-I believe it was white and was
also a Series I-I could not tell if it was LHD or RHD.

So, somewhere in the New York area there might be a Sceptre moldering in a
junkyard! Other then those two, I have never seen another one. The other
rare Rootes car I saw was a Series III or IV Singer Vogue. It was right hand
drive and was sitting on the sidewalk outside of "Long Island City
Imports"-the company formed by ex-Rootes employees after the Rootes/Chrysler
Long Island City facility was closed (it was across the street from the old
Rootes building).

There was one imported here into NZ about 2 years ago I think. It is in
Auckland here somewhere, and I have been meaning to check it out sometime.
The cars are based on the mark 1 Humber sceptre, more than the alpine. I
think it is the same floorpan, windscreen, and some of the bodywork too and
interior too. I have a few sceptres here in NZ, but understand they are very
rare in America. Are there any that anyone knows of?
