Scott,
I have been rebuilding a few 1600 engines lately. It takes Ian and
myself about 15-16 hours to assemble and install the engine back in the
car. Here is a list of new parts that I replaced in the lower end.
(Notice that no oil pumps exist for the 1600. We have to find a good
used pump from our parts stock):
Pistons, w/rings 240.00
Crank bearings 36.50
Rod bearings 44.25
Cam bearings 49.95
Timing Chain 17.58
Rubber Tensioner 7.46
Blade 6.93
Thrust Bearing 11.90
Crank key 3.37
Gaskets (head) 46.50
(conversion) 22.34
Total $486.78
Camshaft issue (Check for the fuel pump lobe wear as well as the other
lobes). I have a new reground one (including lifters) for $200. Let me
know if you want it.
Machine Services.
Clean block 45.00
Clean oil pan 20.00
Bore cylinders 80.00
Crank mains and rods 75.00
Rods resized 40.00
Freeze plugs 15.00
Freeze plugs (small) 7.49
Total 282.49
Grand Total $769.27
The head costs can range from about $75 to $200 depending on any welding
that needs to be done. I always replace the crank pulley bolt with a
grade 8, hex bolt so that I can torque it to about 75 ft-lbs. Sometimes,
the pulley needs replacing too.
