My thanks and congratulations to Ian, Jan, Brian, Tom W. and any others who
helped to organize and implement this wonderful Sunbeam event! Susan and I
had a wonderful time! The poker rally was lots of fun - I have not
participated in one for many years - good clues, reasonable times, and
beautiful driving opportunities! Thanks.
Susan and I traveled over 1000 miles to attend - it was well worth it! The
trip out was easy - good driving, reasonable traffic, and, for the most
part, courteous drivers who thought our Alpine was pretty cool. The first
500 miles on the return trip were equally enjoyable, although the
temperatures were hotter than I'd prefer. All went well as far as Kewaunee,
Illinois. After an overnight stay in Kewaunee we started out on Monday
morning for the final leg of our trip. After about 25 minutes of driving we
lost the engine. I don't know if it's a valve, a broken ring or what. At
any rate, there is now a '67 Alpine residing in the small town of
Prophetstown, Illinois. We rented a car from Enterprise (Yes, they really
will drive 15 miles to pick you up!) and arrived home last evening. This
morning I will leave with my '76 F150 and a trailer to return to
Prophetstown to pick up Ol' Blue. I'm curious to see what "went south" in
the engine.
Anyway -thanks again to all, including the entire Spencer family, for a
wonderful time. We both greatly appreciated your hospitality and
generosity.
