hey rob you should take it apart first, you may have lost a spring out
of the clutch disc, there are three or four of them mounted around the
center hub i have seen them fatigue and fall out, or break. good luck

Congratulations to Brian Steel who correctly diagnosed my clutch
problem. The tabs on one of the four springs had broken and allowed the
spring to fall out and jam between the pressure plate and the clutch
disc. The replacement disc I have has sealed springs so it would appear
the tab style can be a problem.
Thanks again to all who lent their helpful advice.
One last thing. The pressure plate is pretty scored in the center
where the spring was jammed. Can these be turned like a disc brake?
