Jim is correct! As always.
I have used a finned oil sump from a 69 GT for my Series 3 Gt resto and after
hearing of Jim's woes I decided to "Clear Powder Coat" both the inside and
outside of the sump. To do this it first had to be baked to boil the oil out
of the pores, then sand blasted and baked again. Again more oil came to the
surface and the process started over. After 3-4 bakes all the oil came out.
It was then clear coated both inside and out.
I cannot attest to the performance since I have yet to hit the road! But it
seems to me this should hold more oil than the standard and help with
cooling. But then Jim has never given me bad info so we will see....
Here is a picture of mine on the engine stand in the garage. Notice the
clear coat actually turned the color of the aluminum to a solid gray. If I
had it to do over....I would just clear coat the inside and leave the outside
natural. But then this will clean up real easy.
