Here is the info regarding the "Iron Butt Rally"
Three days and 1000 miles of driving like a bunch of idiots through the So Cal
Desert anyone with an old or unusual car is invited and the older or more
unusual the better.. The objective is fun not necesarily speed although a
participant or two might get tickets.
I personally have not been on this rally before but the friend that invited me
says a good time will be had by all and that the drive will take us through
some rather impressive desertscapes.
see you there.

What you need to Know
No one has driven the entire route, mileage is estimated, you are expected
you use your own judgment and a map to stay on course.
The California map provided by the Automobile Club of Southern California,
includes all of the roads on this tour (some roads are not well marked). If
you feel the need for more details get a Thomas Brothers California Road
Atlas (under $20 at your local map store).
Start with a full fuel tank. Gas is available at several locations but there
are some long stretches without gas. Keep your tank topped off. The Taft to
King City segment on day one is without gas stations. Hollister to coalinga
on day two is also without gas stations.
Many roads pass through open range. Keep a sharp eye for cattle and wild deer.
A collision with one of these beasts can ruin you day.
Carry a cell phone. If you break down you are on your own. Other
participants may stop and offer help, because they are fellow gear heads.
However, you are ultimately responsible for your own vehicle.
