If anyone cares, I paid Taylor Engines, a very reputable shop in
Whittier, CA (he does all of Jay Leno's Duesy engines, I even saw one
of the heads in his shop. A work of art!!), about $450 in labor to
port the head, shape the combustion chambers, do some welding on the
water jackets & enlarge the valves. I can't recall the cost of parts
for valves and seats, but I think it was less than $200.
Jay Steel, the owner of Taylor and a bit of an eccentric, loves to work
on unusual engines and took on my 1725 as a personal project of sorts.
It is these kinds of machinists, that have a passion for history &
engineering, that produce the best work, IMHO.
