Engine rotation question

The engine rotates in a clockwise direction when looking at it from the front, 
correct?

Also,  when I rotate the crank on my fully reassembled engine there is a slight 
slurping noise I hear as the cylinders build compression.  Is this  ok?   The 
engine has been machined and has new pistons and rings and is well lubed in 
anticipation of that fateful day it comes back to life.
