Hi all: Don't mean to be an alarmist, but the following will likely be of
interest to all of you. Our campus computer gurus just sent this to all
faculty and students:

There's a new virus spamming the world. VBS/SST (for lack of a better
> name) has some of the same characteristics as the ILOVEYOU worm. There are
> reports of VBS/SST containing a destructive component; however, no details
> are known at this time. Anti-virus software companies are still
> investigating this new worm. It is known that VBS/SST is a mass mailer; it
> will use listings found in the Microsoft Outlook address book to send
> copies of itself. VBS/SST may overload e-mail servers. VBS/SST currently
> ranks as a 7 on the ZDNet Virus Meter. >

so - if you get an email with an attachement like, for example
"alpineV.jpg.vbs" delete it. The vbs, as I understand it, is the key
destructive element.
