Consider a DC/DC inverter.
Change 12v pos gnd to 12v neg GND.
Then use a transformer to isolate the antenna input.
This will let you keep the radio in its unmodified state.
Ive seen some vintage radio and electronics places
that offer such products.
12v to 6v and polarity changes are pretty common
for modernizing vintage electronics.
Hemmings is a good place to find such things.

I am in the process of switcing the Alpine from Pos to Neg ground. I
have an original "His Masters Voice" radio installed which will also
have to be polarized. The local radio repair man will not touch it which
makes me wonder what my choices are. Anybody been here with advice or
options? I thought about installing the guts of a new radio and keeping
the old case of that nostalgic look but finding a radio to fit may be
