Hello petrol heads
Wow, it only took 3 calls in the end, but finally I have found the company
which will make these overbore head gaskets. I will still check with some of
the racing fraternity to check that these are the gaskets being used, but
I'd say these are them.
They can make the gaskets in a variety of compounds... solid copper,
copper/asbestos, copper/asbestos/tin, and a composite which has a
non-asbestos filling with steel backing designed for diesel engines.
The solid copper ones are the cheapest (around $100NZ all up) and have the
advantage of being reuseable. However, he said copper will react with the
aluminium head and cause pitting, thus recommended the copper/asbestos/tin
type (which is what I think the standard ones are), or even make up a
copper/non-asbestos/tin type as they are for higher compression setups (i.e.
like diesel), and squash more for better sealing. Again, I will try and
check this with someone who is actually using them. Anyway, all these
gaskets are a bit dearer, but still reasonable (around $130NZ = $60 US)
To get them made I just need to supply a standard gasket in good cond and
tell them what the new bore size is
There was a discount for quantity only if we got more than 20. For the first
ones it may be better to get one or 2 each, just to try them out first.
Anyone interested?
Greg
