Yes its safe, but it is said that the higher VOCs swell some rubber components, and the subsequent lack of these aromatics causes rubber shrinkage, which caused many fuel injection fires in the mid to late 80s when the good stuff was removed from gasoline, and the dreaded MTBE was added.
