Some thoughts on engine removal:

It's a while since I took mine out so I can't remember if you actually have to
remove the radiator But I strongly recommend that you do. It's only 4 bolts and
it will save any risk of damaging the radiator with the front of the motor.

I don't know the weight but I doubt if anyone could safely lift and manoeuvre
engine and transmission out through the bonnet aperture without some kind of
hoist. With the transmission attached you will have to tilt and raise the motor
to get the whole unit out. I usually seperate them (even if pulling both out)
as
they become much easier to handle. Even so, Do your back a favour and hire a
hoist for the engine.

Don't forget to drain the transmission if you are taking it out as well.

Rough order would be: disconnect all wires and cables etc (eg speedo cable,
tacho
cable, oil pressure gauge line, wires to overdrive switch etc). If transmission
is coming out, drain it and then disconnect tailshaft at differential and
withdraw from transmission (oh. mark the diff yoke and transmission shaft so the
can align them again when re-installing). Undo the bolts connecting
transmission to engine. Hook up the hoist so that it is starting to support the
engine but not actually lifting it (if you see what I mean). Undo the engine
mounts and then manouevre the engine forward off the transmission. You should
then be able to lift and manouevre the engine out of the bay.

If you need to get the transmission out raise the front of the car and support
on
stands. Then support the transmission on a trolley jack and disconnect the
mounting bolts. You can then move it forward, lower it and take it out under
the front of the car. If your'e not taking transmission out, support the front
end of it so the rubber mounts are not stressed.

As I am sitting in my office and not in front of my car these points are not
exhaustive. - I may have forgotten something.

Good luck and work safely!
