Tim: The Sunbeam temp and fuel gauges have a 10 volt step down transformer.
I guess that dividing by 12 was to hard for the designers!  It's painted
silver, has three leads on it, and is located under the dash board. Check it
with a volt meter and make sure that it's delivering the Smith's sanctioned
12V's.
Also, you may have to swap the sending unit on the engine for the Alpine or
Tiger part, as it may have a different resistance than the one that came
with your V6.
