Brent,
There was once a kit to convert the series I &II to telescoping shocks.
Guess what... you will probably never find it. There are 3 ways you can do
it yuorself. 1. Cut the shock mounts off of the axle, aand use the mounting
plates for the series 2 axle. Then just use the armstrong lever arm shocks.
2. weld up mounts for the telescoping shocks. Use flat bar stock about 1
1/4"to 1 1/2" wide. about 1/4" thick. Make two pieces about 6" long, then
make a piece that would be welded in the center of these to form an "H". The
piece in the center should be arched up so that itis about an inch higher
than the other pieces if it was laid flat. Drill a hole in the center to
mount the shock to it. Position it inside the car, in front of the trunk, on
that flat area directly above the shock mount on the axle. Make sure it
fits, you may have to cut it here and there. use a hole saw, and cut a hole
in the body for the shock mount to stick through the car. drill holes to
mount your shock keeper in the car, and make sure there is some type of
backing plate so the bolts don't pull through. That right there was the
"Kit". It will require some patience and trial and error.
3. Cut the trunk and shock mounts out of a series 3,4, or 5 and weld it all
in. This may take more than a weekend though. Hope that helps. Lou
