Hi Bruce-
1.) County Brand
County Brand makes a number of replacement parts for our cars (Water Pumps,=
Clutch Master Cylinders, Pistons, etc.) .=C2=A0 It is not as though we hav=
e a wide choice of manufacturers, and in the absence of Stanpart, I think C=
ounty is as good as any other manufacturer. I haven't heard any horror stor=
ies about them.
2.) The pump from your 73 is the "sealed bearing" type.=C2=A0 You don't nee=
d to lube these so they are pretty simple.=C2=A0 The bearings are available=
.=C2=A0 I think there is an article in an old 6-Pack Journal that describes=
how to rebuild these pumps. This is also pretty simple. There are 2 of the=
se bearings.=C2=A0 They are a press fit into the housing.=C2=A0 The shaft i=
s pressed through the bearings and housing, then the pulley is pressed on a=
nd the impeller.=C2=A0=20

What can go wrong?=C2=A0 Not much, but there are no stops. So you need to l=
ocate the shaft in the case bearings so that neither the impeller or the pu=
lley interferes with the water pump housing. A little easier said than done=
, but it is doable. If you want to use your favorite gasket dressing (Hyloma=
r, etc) you can.=C2=A0 Do you have to?=C2=A0 I don't think so but it helps =
keep the gasket in place while you are installing the pump.

Upgrades.=C2=A0 The water pump body is cast iron and is a lot of dead weigh=
t. There is an alloy casting of the same pump body. It is more money but it=
is a weight savings.=C2=A0 I think ARE carried it in this country, and may=
be some others (BPNW, TSI ?).
If you want to race or you just spend more time in the pupper RPM range, th=
e stock impeller is prone to cavitation.=C2=A0 I think these same vendors c=
arry an impeller that has curved vanes like a true centrifugal pump. If mon=
ey grows on trees, then these are nice options to consider.=C2=A0 A water w=
etting solution is nice thing for your cooling system and can help reduce d=
riving temps a few degrees.
Best Regards-John Cyg70 DamsonCC52927LO
