Though my TR6 is a little modified, not using a V8, I did read once in some=
ones build that they used the TR6 slave for their V8 conversion. What they =
did was remove the spring and take a .025 inch off the tab that holds the s=
pring in place on the back side of the piston within the slave cylinder. Th=
is gave them a little more throw from the slave cylinder piston has the rod=
force the piston to the back of the cylinder.
After reading that, I tried it with my TR6 slave cylinder when it was time =
for a rebuild. It has worked great without a spring for a couple years now.=
Some times you after wonder why the spring was added in the first place as=
the hydraulic fluid would force the piston out. Why the need for a spring =
unless it was to keep some pressure on the throw out bearing. If that was t=
he case then you should have heard the throw out bearing making noise with =
a spring in three pieces.
The use of the German throw out bearing requires you have a spring to pull =
the bearing arm back. Tension in the reverse direction.
It all comes back to the point of" what works for your situation"

The clutch master on my (running) 6 gave up the ghost; it was pretty rough =
so
I ordered a new one. I had a slave rebuild kit on hand and the slave looked
good (and honed to a nice finish inside) so I didn't plan to replace that e=
nd.
HOWEVER - that internal spring in the slave came out in 3 pieces, and the
rebuild kit does not include the spring. So... just order a new one, right?
TRF and Moss list "N/A" for the spring, and Vicky Brit shows one in the
catalog - at a price of $14.95! Wow, must be made of unobtainium. At that
price (and since I don't really trust VB) I might as well order a new compl=
ete
slave cylinder. Is that my only real option here?
 Lee
P.S. Oh, I found a box containing the complete slave from my non-running 6 =
-
and it's in great shape and has the spring in it. I may just use that one -
and render that nice part useless...
