Well, it finally happened, though without damage to the outside of the door
when it swung open. The checkstrap pivot assembly on the door broke
(partially). The DPO had welded a washer there and it borke off.

Has anyone devised an alternative without taking off the door and re-welding a
repair?

I just put my freshly painted doors back on, finessing door gaps and lots of
fiddling, and I hadn't noticed the DPO repair.

I'm thinking about a small flexible cable attached between a hinge bolt and
the A-post as a temporary safety measure to prevent a crease in my door. If
this works, I may do it to the other door, too.
