Well, let's see. In 1609, Santa Fe was the capital of New Mexico (then
still part of Mexico), there was a highway from Mexico City to Santa Fe (El
Camino Real de Tierra Adentro del Norte) [the Royal Road to the Interior
Land to the North]. The new capital building was being finished (started in
1608) (still standing, a National Park), and there was a nice hotel, still
open and operating....
