Stan,

Have a 72 so don't know the particulars to the 74.5. But on mine the CC takes
the fumes from the crankcase, carbs & fuel tank when the car is switched off
and holds them. When the car starts, vacuum from the carb port sucks the
vapors from the CC into the manifold for burning.

My understanding of the 74.5 carbon canister was that it pulled vapor from the
fuel tank and the Stromberg float chambers and the valve cover and used the
carbon canister as a vapor sink.

Having recently removed the Strombergs and replaced them with 3xdcoe Webers
I'm wondering what to do with the valve cover vent. I had initially thought
that I could just plug it into the top of the carbon canister but I'm having
second thoughts and beginning to wonder if I have not fully understood the
original setup correctly as it would make more sense for fumes to get sucked
into the intake path and combusted otherwise that carbon canister would
quickly become saturated.

How did the original 74.5 system work, and for anyone that has done the 3xdcoe
conversion, what did you do for the valve cover vent ?. I imagine the
supercharger conversion begs the same question.
