I ended up having to cut the fuel line and replace the compression fitting as
the threads were stripped. I was able to tighten the new fitting (with nipple
out) into the pump using considerable "elbow grease" as the threads in the
pump were also messed up.
I had to use some rubber fuel line and clamps to make it work but it no longer
leaks! I will eventually replace the fuel pump and lines but for now I am
satisfied the smell of gas has gone away.
Is there anything I need to be aware of when using a partial rubber fuel line
coming out of the fuel pump? I drove the car on Saturday without any problems
except for an occasional cracking sound coming from the rear passenger side.
