Here is another one of those useless questions in which I specialize...
When I read the list or check Ebay?for good examples for sale, I usually see
sale prices around $8-12,000.? But when I look at sites like
www.WilsonMotorCo.com, good examples go for $14-18,000 or even higher.
I understand that the phrase, "good example," is rather vague.? The cars I am
talking about are essentially the very best "drivers."? Not concours examples
or totally original cars, but cars that have no significant flaws and may be
modified or updated in useful ways.? The sort of cars that don't require any
obvious work after purchase.? Not perfect, but excellent
paint/interior/mechanicals.
How much are cars like this worth?? If you buy a car from a dealer like Wilson,
are you immediately in the hole for several thousand dollars because no one
else would ever pay that much to an individual?? Or are cars like those shown
in the website much better than those that we see on the list or Ebay for the
lower price range?
Yes, I ask the question because I bought a car from Wilson 2 years ago with
extensive mods (fully redone 140 hp motor, clutch, older frame-off restoration,
leather interior, top, suspension with Konis and rear shock conversion, and on
and on).? I didn't expect to make any money on it, but I paid $16,000.? I don't
plan to sell it now, but I wonder whether buying from a dealer carries with it
a huge price premium, or whether we are talking apples/oranges with regard to
private sales.
I am also interested in Porsches and have owned several.? There is something
called the "Porsche Market Letter" that answers this sort of question.? Perhaps
list members have opinions on TR6 prices and trends.
Thanks!
