The generic two pin flashers at any auto parts store will do the
job just fine, thank you. They will last a whole lot longer as well, and
the spade connects fit the Lucas wiring perfectly.
The lifespan of the Lucas flashers is measured in minutes,
unless you go to the heavy duty flasher used on the hazard flashers. I
tried the hazard flasher, but...in my case, the turn signals would stop
flashing when the car was idling at a stop light. The signals do not
draw enough current to make the flasher work reliably when the car
idles.
The only gotcha to using the auto parts store flashers is that
they are invariably round, and will not fit in the clip for the square
Lucas flashers. This is the sort of detail that keeps me awake at night,
so I opted to spend a couple more bucks and get a flasher that came with
a replacement mounting clip. I replaced the stock square clip with the
generic round clip - so my car is no longer original. Gasp!
I think the whole thing set me back $7, but it has been working
flawlessly. The added bonus is that the auto parts store flasher makes a
nice little clicking sound so that I can tell the turn signals are
activated. 'Course, I can't hear it most of the time because I am
revving up the engine and burning rubber. Hah!

the turn signal flasher? Mine died this weekend after only about 5
months of use and I hate to spend the almost $9 for that little thing.
From Dan Master's book I know you can use the hazard flasher (DPO
used one in the turn signal flasher's place), but I found that the
hazard flasher didn't give me the same blink rate as the turn signal
flasher.
