This is a question for anyone that has upgraded their headlamp circuit or has
thought through a plan on how to approach the project.
There seems to be two potential solutions.
Plan A is to put the relays inside the tub, eg high up on the passenger
footwell, and run the high/low wires through the engine bay along the path of
the original loom.
Pros for plan A are that all the relays and fuses are hidden inside the tub
and out of the weather. Cons are that you need to connect into the under-dash
wiring to trigger the relays and that the original headlamp wiring is left
unused.
Plan B is to put the relays under the hood, probably near the front, high up
on the drivers side inner wing. Here the relays can be triggered via the
original headlamp wiring (Daniel Stern includes a special adapter to connect
into the headlamp loom socket for this purpose).
Pros for plan B are that only one wire needs to go through the engine
compartment to provide the main power, no work is needed under the dash as the
original headlamp loom is used to trigger the relays. Cons are that the relays
are now under the hood and are visible.
A variant of plan B would be to put the relays next to the original fuse box
and run longer high/low wires to the front and longer trigger wires back from
the headlamp socket.
