Sloane:
There is no legal issue (the post office uses them, after all),
but there is a safety issue; Passing another car takes on an added
element of risk as you must move more of your car out into the oncoming
traffic in order to see around the car in front of you. It is not a huge
risk, but it is a risk. You can offset this by hanging back further from
the car in front, although sometimes traffic makes this difficult.
In addition, the drive up window at McDonalds does not work very
well for a RHD car =:-o.
Shifting a RHD car requires a bit of learning, but really is
trivial after a few minutes.
LHD cars have a higher resale value in the US.
So there is no reason you *MUST* convert to LHD in the US, but
convenience, resale and safety push you in that direction.
