Recently, I posted a question about lubing my choke cables. I got a number
of helpful replies describing the orthodox method of detaching the cables at
both ends, removing the inner cable from the outer sheath, greasing the inner
cable, and reassembling and reattaching it. However, I am far too lazy for
that, so I undertook an internet seach for some sort of device that might
lubricate a cable by removing one end, or even none. I am pleased to report
that I had some success in that endeavor.
I found a website called _www.protectall.com_ (http://www.protectall.com) .
They have a cable luber device. It uses a metal jig that attaches to the end
of a cable and encloses it in a small rubber compartment. You then hook up
a spray can of cable lube compound to the jig via the usual red plastic
straw. You push down on the spray can nozzle for about 5 seconds and
lubricant
flows into the cable housing. I did it twice on the carburetor ends of my
choke cable, and it went from very stiff to moving freely. The best part is
that
you just need a cable with some inner (wire) portion sticking out. You
clamp the jig over both the free inner part and the outer housing. There was
enough access to the end of the choke cables that I didn't even have to detach
them from the carbs.
The luber works better if the outer cable has a proper metal cap on it
through which the inner cable emerges. It tried the luber on my hood release
cable, but that ends just in a cut portion of rubber outer sheath. The jig
couldn't seal over it, even though I removed that end from the car. The lube
just
leaked all over the engine bay.
Anyway, I am very pleased with the device. The URL is

NFI and all that. You can email me with any questions.
