Perhaps those were very tough miles. Towing a plough through a rocky
field for example.

Mark
1972 TR6 (with only 6,000 miles,,, if you ignore the roll-over ... :^)

Tsk, tsk. You too are embittered by the judging experience, eh?

I considered taking my assault rifle back to the judging field
after my loss. Fer crying out loud, the car that won had Panasports on
it!!! Unappreciative, effete snobs. Take that (rata-tat-tat!!!)

Not that I am bitter or anything... (whimper)

I've never understood how the "judges" have come up with their notions
as to "original." This tube color issue of "translucent vs. black" is
one of the classics. I've only seen the translucent on the TR-6s, but
then again, low production numbers of all the TRs lead to the
manufacturer installing what was delivered from the tube/overflow bottle
makers. Triumph/BL may never have specified any particular type. Maybe
these parts swap with other BL products, and these other products used
the black. So there may have well been some with black overflow tubes.

Another example of the "judges" view of original is that the wiring
harness in the TR-3As was supposed to be all black cloth covering. Nice
story, but the wiring harness on my TR-3A, which I know to be the
original, is yellow and black. Now, it may be, as above, that some came
with all black and others with the yellow and black. "Year" would not
matter for these cars, and maybe not even commission number. There may
have been a stock of wiring harnesses, from different suppliers, with
mixed colors, and whatever was delivered to the assembly line was what
was installed in the chassis. So what makes the all black harness so
"original" per the "judges" that they would take "points" off as
non-"original?" Since mine is original.

I've seen TR-3As with redone interiors that are at best poor
reproductions of the original be considered by "judges" as being
Concours grade.

For the above reasons, I don't consider the pictures in brochures, or
manuals, or advertisements, as being the proof of what was original.

These are the reasons that I would never consider entering any of these
contests. Nor worrying about their opinions.
