Ed--- You're right about pressure buildup being the main cause of oil
coming out around valve cover openings. The engine needs to vent
somewhere, and it doesn't necessarily need to go to a vacuum source. In
fact I'd advise against routing it to any source of manifold vacuum, as
it will suck in the spash of engine oil.
You can route a hose from the valve cover pipe to an opening on the
carburetor air box. You may have to make your own connection for this.
Try to avoid having the blowby go thru the air filter, as it will foul
it quickly.
If you have too much blowby from worn rings and such, you may have to
remedy the source. One way to tell is to hold your thumb over the valve
cover pipe with the engine at a fast idle. See how long it takes to push
your thumb away! Not very scientific, but it'll tell you something.
A "good" engine will produce a small puff after about five seconds of
obstruction.

I have a '76 TR6 which has had all the emissions controls removed from
the engine. Since I live in Idaho, there doesn't seem to be much of a
concern but it does cause the oil to leak around the valve cover and
particularly arond the oil filler cap...presumably because of the
pressure it builds up.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this other than re-install the
emission controls?
