Bob:
I would add that this "feature" is easy to disable. The wiring
harness on my 74-1/2 that provides this bit of fun fell off my car
during the restoration, and I just can't seem to find the time to
reinstall it. Call me lazy.

Mark..... This is normal with my 76... I just hold the key to start
with my
left hand and wiggle the gear shift lever with my right till the car
