Walt, if you are trying to replace the steering column bushes the bump
in the inner steering column is your friend because after removing the
"ears" off the old bushes you can use the inner column and its bump for
the lock to (gently) drive out the old bushes. Just babysit the upper
part of the column where the switch and horn housing is crimped to the
outer column. This joint cant take much abuse and I like to wrap it well
with electrical tape to protect it before I start.

Subject: steering column disassembly
I'm attempting to replace the bushings in my steering column. Neither
the Bentley nor Haynes addresses how to remove the inner upper steering
column from the Outer steering column. The ring that allows the steering
to lock seems to prevent the inner column from coming out.
Am I missing something?
