Joe,
I'm thinkin' 4K is too much for a car that needs
extensive frame work. Fixing it "right" usually means
pulling the body off the chassis. You'll probably
find that it's worse than you think too:-) Not only
the frame, but the body too.
I don't know that I'd just walk away. That will
depend on your skill level or what you're willing to
pay someone else to do. You will pay a bit of a
premium for the 250. Also, if you're not intending on
doing the work, BUY AS MUCH CAR AS YOU CAN AFFORD.
Remember a GOOD paint job is anywhere can cost
anywhere between 2500-5000K...that's just paint.
Personally, I started a 250 restoration....started.
The chassis is more or less done. I've had a lot of
local club members helping(keep that in mind), but
it's been several years now. In my case, I have a TR6
to drive in between turning wrenches, sand blasting,
painting, buying PARTS!
As was stated in another post, you'll probably end up
spending more money than it's worth, BUT if you
restore it yourself, you'll know the car better than
anyone. You'll know how everything goes together.
There's always a car out there waiting to be found by
a PATIENT person.
