Thanks for reminding me of an unpleasant memory, Dick. I had a bolt come out
of the ring gear and holed the rear cover, which is better than getting wedged
in a gear and creating a lockup. My fault for not using loctite in addition
to the lock washers on the ring gear. I also know of a person (who will remain
anonymous) that had a lockup from insufficient oil in the diff. As far as
George's problem, It might be as simple as a loose driveshaft bolt or something
in
the diff or transmission. Disconnecting the driveshaft should isolate the
guilty component. Good luck.
