voltage stabilizer

All:  I realize that it is impossible to diagnose electrical probs over 
e-mail, but suggestions are welcomed.  How come I keep blowing out 
voltage stabilizers?  I took an old one apart-  the little buggers are 
solid state!

BTW- GM alternator-  what would be some of the symptoms of having the 
two small wires (brown and brown/white) reversed?  I didn't mention 
above that I also have a power drain somewhere.
