Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents on the GL-4 issue.....discussions with
technical reps with Valvoline indicated that GL-5 may harm "yellow metals"
(brass, etc.) at higher temperatures. The rep indicated that at "normal"
temps, GL-5 should be fine. That being said, I (like many of you) only use
GL-4 in my tranny and diff. I found my 5-gallon bucket of Valvoline GL-4 at a
tractor supply store. In addition, the folks at Red Line Oil address the
GL-4/5 corrosiveness issue in their literature, and typically have
knowledgeable technical representitives. They say that their MTL product is
".....non-corrosive to syncros and bushings." You may want to call to confirm
prior to plunking down $10 per quart for gear lube. They also make a lube
called MT-90 which is a heavier 90 wt. (???) Can anyone on the list confirm
the appropriate Red Line gear lube application for the TR?
Wishing everyone a healthy, happy, and Triumphant New Year!!!
