I have a 5hp belt drive on a 60gal vertical tank.
It is a DeVibliss unit.
I can run pretty much any air tool with it.
I can use a high volume blast nozzle continuously.
These are just wonderfull for cleaning things and
I use it daily to blow off the lawn tractor,
chain saws, trimmers, tractors and implements....
I think I use the blast nozzle and air chuck more
than anything else.
It drives a rotary sander (with vacuum bag) in
continuous mode without a problem.

Having it be a permanent installation is actually
better than portable in most cases. The most
important is that it is directly wired (240v)
into the pannel.
I have a big roller on wheels with about 200'
of air hose and I just take the hose with
me instead a portable air compressor. It's
better than dragging a big extension cord and
a lot more efficient from an energy conversion point
of view. Also quieter :)
The other advantage is that it is always on and
always charged up. I have outlets in the shop,
garrage and carport/driveway so I always have
instant air available. Oh so nice and nowadays
it just isn't very expensive. Plus the tools
are cheaper than the electric equivalents, and
lighter too.
