Fuel Cap Details

Hi All-

One of the details that has always fascinated me is the fuel cap on the TR6. 
I have a used satin finished cap.  There are a number of dings on it. 
Anyone have any suggestions as to the finish?

The one on my car has both a mechanical catch and a large circular magnetic 
ring that helps make the seal.  I heard that the magnet was deleted at one 
point. Anybody know if this is true and when?
