I have to share a quick embarrassing story, just on the possibility somebody
else could have made the same mistake. Speaking of 'nice and clean' oil
coming out of a TR, I have always thought my car made the absolutely most
dirty 'crude' oil imaginable. After many years of ownership, one day I began
to wonder if some oil was staying in the pan because I pull it up on little
yellow ramps to change the oil, and my 69 has the plug in the front of the
pan. I think I may have heard something about this not being true for later
cars. Anyway, I decided to see if it was possible to gently roll the car
down off the ramps, (left foot out the door), after finger tightening the
drain plug. Successfully down, I slipped a cut-off Casrol can under and
opened the plug. To my disgust, at least a half quart of oil came out. No
wonder my oil was almost instantly black again after one drive on a fresh
change.
