I, too, have been told that the input shaft to the transmission of a TR6
enters the bottom of the tranny and provides the splash lubrication. Thus,
flat towing without the engine running will possibly ruin the transmission
if the driveshaft is still in place.
>From my experience with U-Haul and renting their car trailers - ask
beforehand if they will allow you to tow a 2,300 car on their trailer behind
your Mountaineer - my guess is yes (they have a "book" they use to
determine). They would not let us tow a TR6 behind our Lexus RX300.
