Tom---I have a 74 1/2 diff on the workbench at the moment. It does not
have the collapsible spacer, and I'm reasonably sure it has never been
apart before now. If you are going to rebuild this unit, it's very
likely that you will be purchasing the solid spacer as a replacement
part
I think, but not positively sure, that there is a proceedure for setting
end float for the collapsible spacer in the rear hub section in the
Bentley manual, should you (find and) decide to use a new one. Details
for this should be similar to the pinion shaft collapsible spacer.
