Hello Rick,
Let me say right up front that I don't run Lucas oil stabilizer in my car
but my store does sell it. We also sell Morey's oil stabilizer which is a
very similar appearing product. This stuff appears to work quite well on
cars with little or no oil pressure. It is a last ditch effort for many who
just want to drive that old car a little longer and for some who can't
afford to rebuild an engine or purchase a new car.
Does it work? I think it does pretty much what it says it does. For low oil
pressure could you use a heavier oil and get the same results? Perhaps. The
best case for these additives are the guys who run the Demo Derby cars. Many
add a quart to those beaters and before the evening is done, the radiator is
holed and you can read by the light of the exhaust manifolds and they still
run!
These additives also will sometimes quiet a noisy lifter.
Snake oil? Maybe, but lots of customers swear by it. I'd hate to see the
government step in and determine what you can purchase. I'd like to decide
what I to spend my money on.
