I've only had positive results with the alloy rack mounts.  The steering is 
precise.  Initially I did replace the upper rubber universal joint on the shaft 
with a U-joint like the one attached at the rack.  This did result in a very 
harsh feel.  Since I went back to the rubber joint, I'm very pleased with the 
steering.  The "road feel" feels great!
