Bill:
Retorquing the nut on the end of the stub axle will not affect
the crush spacer. The crushable spacers are affected by the double nut
with the crimp washer, which is located on the inside of the hub,
located internal to the trailing arm.
If you decide to torque those, you will need a 2" wrench and
removal of the hub from the trailing arm. As long as all you do is
tighten (NOT loosen) then you are OK. If you need to loosen the double
nuts, then you need to replace the crush spacer.

Subject: Rear Bearing Advice
Hi Folks,
A few months ago, with the help of Herman Van Den Akker, I
replaced the rear axle bearings and seals on the 1970 TR6. The kit
included a crushable spacer. I am now noticing a little play in the
rear wheels when I try to rock them back and forth.
The question is ... can I re-torque the stub axle nut? Or do
I risk screwing up the crushable spacer??
Thanks for your time ..
