        Bob:

Depends on how long you want to take, and what resources you
have available in your area.

If you have a classic car dealer or LBC car dealer that works on
consignment in your area, this is a good way to get top dollar (retail),
since they will provide financing and can show the car to a wide variety
of people. It can take a while to get it sold, however.
Assuming you would rather not pay a commission fee, you can try
selling it yourself. I do not recommend using a local newspaper, as
fewer and fewer used cars are getting sold that way. I would be inclined
to use www.autotrader.com. I had excellent results the one time I tried
it, as did my neighbor.
For $50, you get unlimited listing time and you can post a
photo. Make sure you use the photo option, and post a nice clean photo
of the car. After getting NO calls on my car in the local paper (1/2
million people read this paper, so it isn't some small time rag) over a
6 week listing, I sold my car in a week using auto trader.
Then, if I did not get anywhere with that, I would probably try
eBay or consignment as a fall back strategy. You can always sell it on
eBay, but you may need to hold a reserve, ship it etc. eBay sells 5% of
the used cars sold in the US, and considering how fragmented the used
car market is, that is a truly remarkable number. I think however that
it is a tad unpredictable - one week cars get good prices, the next week
the only bidders are bargain hunters.
Auto Trader is nice because it will be people in a reasonable
driving radius that will come and look at it, and people always feel
better and are more serious if they are willing to come look at the car.

So, autotrader.com and then a fallback of eBay or perhaps a LBC
dealer willing to work on consignment.

Condition is everything on a car as old as ours. The better the
condition, the better the price.

        Keep us posted,

        Vance
