Hi,
Two things - you can probably get away with repairing the cracked welds,
but get a good welder to do this job. It is not an ideal repair, but it
will work.
There should be no need to weld in gussets here. These welds NEVER break.
Which brings up the second thing - I'll bet that you are bottoming out
the tubular shocks before the car is hitting the upper bump stops. This
would then transfer ALL of the weight of the car to the rear diff.

Put another way - you MUST make sure that the suspension is bottoming on
the bump stops or you will continue to get cracks on the frame (or worse)
Alter the bump stop rubbers to eliminate the bottoming.
